AP English is designed to provide a broad background in Western literature from a Christian perspective. It is designed for, but not limited to, the serious college-bound student. Students will read books which reflect various philosophies and world views. Students will also learn the language and perspective of different forms of literary criticism, including new criticism, post-colonial criticism, feminist criticism, Marxist criticism, deconstruction, and other post-modern critical theories. Essay questions will be similar to those that the student will encounter in college literature courses. Students are highly encouraged, though not required, to take the AP exam. The course is meant to be comparable to fifth or sixth semester college and university courses that focus on speaking and writing in the target language at an advanced level. For this reason, both the teacher and the students will speak almost exclusively in Spanish throughout the year. The aim of this course is to prepare students for the Spanish Language Advanced Placement Exam in the spring and to achieve a high level of language ability in all language skills.
